Jack of Trades

It's a little bit different from what I usually shoot, but I thought I'd capture a little bit of the non-cattle side of the ranch world. Sometimes you spend the day working in the cold on your horsetrailer... One can't always go to the mechanic or body shop to get things fixed. Many times, the fix involves scrap metal and some welding work. The saying "Jack of all trades, master of non" really comes into play. -BP-

So... Yes, this is a bit of an experimental shot. The HDR is a bit over the top, but it's kind of fun to fiddle around and try a different look, even if it is a bit non-traditional. When I saw the skies this day, I already had this image, or at least the final look, in mind. -BP-

This image may not be totally to the realistic side of things, but this is the result I saw as I shot it. Every now and then a little creativity on the extremes is good, right? -BP-

I decided to post this shot too. The two cayuses gives it some more drama and action I think. I shall let you, the viewer, decide... -BP-

I decided to forgoe joining in the gather so I could try and grab a few shots in the morning light. I love this area and cowfolk doing their thing makes it even better to shoot. -BP-

Morning Gather

Two exposure blend here.... I really like the lighting in this one. Albiet, it would have been better if the sun wasn't quite so high and harsh, but oh well. I just can't get enough of those wide mountain vistas. Mix that with some ranch life and it's nigh irresistable... -BP-

I was all the way out at 300mm, so things are quite as sharp as I'd like them to be, which is too bad because this is a great shot I think! It was such a gorgeous morning. No wind, beautiful sky, easy moving cattle, the smells of the mountain West... -BP-

This shot just looks way better monochromatic. Has that true western feel about it. -BP-

Vaquero Style

This cowboy had such an awesome mustache! It was waxed and curled epiclly... He had such a large flat-brim palm leaf sombrero too. I'm glad I got a decent shot of this great ropin team. -BP-

The severe backlight and dust caused me to give this image an antique feel. I've always wanted to capture a shot like this too. I guess it worked out. -BP-
